Position Description:

The Director, Application Development will oversee and direct efforts to identify, develop, and exploit selective opportunities in the marketplace where Flowserve can leverage its unique portfolio of products and solutions – across all platforms – in a combined package that creates incremental economic value for the company beyond what each individual component can produce on its own. In so doing they will:

  • Evaluate new and existing market segments and industries for the highest potential and sustainable growth opportunities for new or cross-platform applications and technologies, based on Market and Business intelligence, Product Leaders, Sales, and Operations feedback

  • Within these segments, understand and outline current Flowserve offerings and capabilities to deliver solutions and value to the customers.Identify any gaps that need closure as part of this process.

  • Aggregate current capabilities and offerings into competitive and attractive commercial and technical solutions for customers in the segment

  • Work with Product Leaders and external partners as needed to close any gaps in the offering.Document in the form of a product development, partnership or potential acquisition roadmap for the industry segment

  • Working with Sales and Product Management, identify potential lead customers and approach to validate and test assumptions to better refine and shape the offering in order to make it commercially viable and attractive to other potential customers in the segment

  • Lead an integrated team of Sales, Application Development, Product Management, and Engineering as needed to build and deliver the new application or solution for the lead customer, and gather feedback to adjust or configure the solution as needed

  • Continue to follow up with the customers and partners throughout the execution of any related development projects and determine how to begin to best operationalize this into Flowserve as a more structured long term part of the portfolio of commercial offerings

Scope:

  • Global Product Portfolio of $1.0 - $2.0B in revenue across pumps, seals, valves, actuation, and services

  • Managing a global team of Directors/Managers w/total team size of 3 to 10

  • Total departmental budget of $1M to $5M

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Deliver 2-4 scoped opportunities within first 12 months

  • Perform gap / fit analysis

  • Prioritize opportunities in conjunction with the platforms, Sales and Product Management

  • Deliver financial and operational proposals to capture necessary operating and capital funding to effectively pursue priority projects

  • Lead the pursuit of suitable projects and achieve the ROI and target financial outcomes

  • Provide feedback into the M&A roadmap gained from ongoing exposure to markets and opportunities

  • Through adherence to engineering standards and processes, ensure quality and reliability in all products

  • Using engineering documentation and tools, ensure and communicate standardization of product design

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in business or engineering required (Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing or Electrical), MBA preferred

  • Strong influencing skills with demonstrated ability to create, inspire, and lead virtual teams that deliver results

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in sales, product management, marketing, and/or business development of industrial products

  • Proven project management experience with history of successful completion

  • Possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to institute and manage a cross-functional team

  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written

· Experience in a multinational company

· 25-50% Travel required
